This year (2026) marks the five hundredth anniversary of the publication of William Tyndale’s New Testament in English. To explore this, there will be a local history day of talks, arranged jointly by Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society and the Avon Local History and Archaeology, from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Saturday 19th September 2026. To mark the 500th anniversary of Tyndale's translation of the Greek New Testament into English vernacular, Revd John McNeill is organising a coach tour of places connected to William Tyndale in Gloucestershire. Meet at 10 a.m. at Hucclecote Methodist Church in Gloucester on Friday 18th September. The packed day includes lunch an exhibition, film, lunch at Dursley Methodist church hall and a commemoration at the Tyndale monument. The total cost is just £15 per person. The Bible Society is organising a fundraising walk of the Tyndale Trail from the Tyndale sculpture in Bristol to the Tyndale Monument at North Nibley, Gloucestershire. The walk is twenty-six (26) miles long and will take place over two days on Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th September, 2026. Participants will follow in the footsteps of William Tyndale, going to places connected to him with a guide from the Tyndale Society.
The aim is to raise money for the Bible Society. The expedition itself (including accommodation and logistics) will cost £150 per person to take part, but each member of the group will be expected also to raise some money for the Bible Society. Here is a short word from our sponsor:

Songs of Praise is BBC 1 Television's weekly religious programme, which has been running since 1961, making it the world's longest continuously running religious television programme. It features uplifting stories of faith with interviews and music from around different types of churches. It is on every Sunday at 2:15 p.m. and lasts half an hour.
