In 1526, William Tyndale’s English translation of the New Testament was printed in Worms in Germany, which is twinned with St Albans in England. As part of the "Made in Worms" festival to mark the five hundredth anniversary of the English New Testament, Prof. Tim Boatswain and Dr. Florian Alexander Ruths from St Albans brought the story of William Tyndale and his struggle for an English Bible to life.
Firstly, Tim Boatswain gave a talk about Tyndale and then they performed a dramatic confrontation between William Tyndale and the theologian Jacobus Latomus, exploring the theological and political questions surrounding Tyndale’s translation of Scripture. The performance took place on 3rd October 2026 at the Magnuskirche in Worms as part of the programme accompanying "Made in Worms" exhibition.
