Letter to President Bush

Dear Mr President,

It was with the greatest pleasure that members of the Tyndale Society listened to your speech at the Banqueting House in Whitehall on Wednesday 19th November. It gave a message of hope.

It is, indeed, rightly said that the Americans are a religious people. Thus our particular joy was to hear it so clearly stated that William Tyndale was a bearer of this “Good News” to your countrymen and women. The Wesleys and General Booth built on Tyndale's very solid foundations and all Britons are intensely proud of this progression.

Tyndale, alive today, would have urged us to ‘fight the good fight’ and seek a ‘land flowing with milk and honey’ at the end of our labors. How right!

May I send the very good wishes of Professor David Daniell whose signed copies of his latest book, The Bible in English, have recently been sent to you, Mr President, and to your wife.

All members of the Tyndale Society join me in thanking you for drawing th attention of a world audience to the influence of a special Englishman.

Yours sincerely,
Rowland Whitehead
